An Explosive and Ballistic Show ….

With a clear and azure blue sky overhead, 25th and 27th February 2003 promised to be great days for the ahtletes of the Grand Old Lay. Hey, its Additional Sports again ….perhaps a  bit early this year. Having a high school team spirit and camaraderie, all students converge on the field for an assembly. After the principal has offered his words of encouragement as well as some safety tips, the sports kick off with the warminng-up sessions. Shortly after that, all captains mobilised their members in an orderly manner. The events are high jump, long jump, 100 meter sprint and 400 meter long run.

Showing great enthusiasm, students from various houses were seen eager to score points for their respective houses. During last year’s title race for the conveted honour of being crowned champion, defending champion Hamilton lost by merely a point to arch rival – Pinhorn. Surely, Hamilton house master, Mr. Ooi Keat Hin has been challenging his house to avenge their bitter defeat. Taking up stations respectively were teachers in charge. During the first day, Pinhorn looked set to retain their title but Hamilton and other houses kept up the pressure. In the high jump event, notably, students employed many techniques to overcome the vault. Some spinned while some simply slammed through.

During the second day, all houses improved immeasurably from their lacklustre performance on the first day. Pushing themselves and displaying the Free School spirit, more points were scored in succession. Win or lose, that does not matter as all Frees have the right attitude to acknowledge their mistakes but not defeat. They will try harder again next year.
